Introduction
The Roe versus Wade decision that protected a woman’s right to have an abortion was overturned by the supreme court on June 24, 2022. The Roe versus Wade decision stipulated that the constitution of the United States generally protects the choice to have an abortion. In other words, a woman has the freedom to choose to have an abortion.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade means that the constitution does not protect the freedom of a woman to have an abortion. It is, therefore, now up to the individual states to determine if abortions are legal or not.
There are groups on both sides. One group says that abortion is murder and should be illegal, and others say women have the right to do what they want to their bodies, i.e., have an abortion. However, the argument of those promoting abortions is, in my opinion, stupid, and in this article, I will share why I think that.
I should point out that my view on abortion does not include rape. I haven’t given much thought to that situation or conducted a thorough Bible study on it. At this point, it seems reasonable that a woman would be justified for chosing not to give birth to a child conceived from rape. However, again, that is just my opinion at the time of this writing, which could change as I learn more about it from Scripture.
This article deals with the casual attitude about abortions where women use it to negate the consequences of their promiscuity. Also, the context of this article is mainly the abortions of unmarried women.
Evil is Stupid
First, let me make a statement that might seem strange. That is that evil is stupid. What do I mean by stupid? The word stupid means having or showing a significant lack of intelligence or common sense. In the context of this article, I will focus on the lack of common sense.
I realized several years ago that evil is stupid compared with the things of God. Evil is stupid, irrational, and unreasonable. It is futile to attempt to reason with someone that is evil because your common sense will make no sense to the one acting in evil. Consider what the Apostle Paul said.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV) — But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Also, consider the following passage.
John 3:3 (NKJV) — Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
A person practicing evil/ungodliness and another practicing godliness operate on two different planes of reasoning. The reasoning of a godly person will seem foolish to an evil person. Likewise, a person attempting to reason from a godly perspective will make no sense to one reasoning from an evil perspective.
That is why something that seems reasonable to an ungodly or evil perspective makes no sense to someone reasoning from a godly perspective. Consider what Jesus said.
Matthew 7:6 (NKJV) — 6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
In ancient times, dogs were not man’s best friends as they are considered in the West now. In ancient times, dogs were raggedy animals that fed on garbage and whatever they could find. They were dirty and wild. Pigs were unclean to the Jews.
Therefore, giving something holy to someone that won’t appreciate it should be avoided. You can’t present the things of God to a person choosing to operate in evil and expect them to understand. They won’t. They will most likely come against you.
Therefore, evil is stupid compared to God’s things or wisdom. Trying to reason with someone who demands a woman’s right to murder the human inside of her is probably futile.
Ungodly Society
Our society is increasing in ungodliness. People have relentlessly stripped God out of our society, e.g., schools, public places, media, etc. Television shows and movies are great examples of this point. You will find casual sex and homosexuality as a normal part of some programming. The news highlights the clash between pro-life and pro-choice.
The world wants to establish its own righteousness and leave God out of it. They want to pave the road as they go and develop their own morals. What was unheard of years ago is accepted now. What was considered to be taboo in my childhood is okay now. Why? We are becoming less influenced by the kingdom of God and more influenced by the world.
Therefore, it is not surprising that ungodly principles and practices permeate our society and drive it to further ungodliness. Abortion is a topic that highlights the ungodliness of our society and the stupidity of ungodly people. The more ungodly the world gets, the more stupid it becomes.
Women’s rights to their bodies
An abortion argument that I repeatedly hear is that women have the right to do what they want with their bodies. That, on the surface, makes sense. Of course, a woman or anyone has the right to make decisions about their own body.
A woman has the right to get a tattoo if she wants one. The government or anyone else does not have the right to tell you what you can do with your body.
Here is what I believe is the stupidity of the abortion argument. Yes. A woman has the right to choose what happens to her body. However, abortion is not primarily about a woman’s body but the body of the human being growing inside her. Who speaks for that person’s body, howbeit unborn.
The abortion argument is a smokescreen, in my opinion. It is not about the woman’s body, nor is it really about the body of the human inside her. The helpless one inside her is merely the victim of an ulterior motive for the pro-choice claims. That motive is promiscuity without consequences.
A woman has the right to not have sex, making abortion a moot point. She chose to have sex, perhaps unprotected, and afterwards wants to erase the results of intercourse. I am confident that mature people are aware that having sex can cause conception. Therefore, there is always a risk that a couple having sexual intercourse can result in a pregnancy and they both made the choice to use their bodies with that risk in mind.
Yes. The woman has a choice. However, the choice that is overlooked is the choice to have intercourse in the first place.
In Marriage
There are several complications in marriage regarding abortions, which I will not dwell on in this article. I attempt to show why I think the abortion argument is stupid and not to debate a woman’s rights. Men have no rights if their wives decide to have an abortion. She can get one without his consent.
The abortion argument is that women have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies. However, consider this.
1 Corinthians 7:3–4 (HCSB) — 3 A husband should fulfill his marital responsibility to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband. 4 A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does.
I want to highlight that neither the husband nor wife has rights over their own body. Their spouse does. That is a significant statement and goes directly against the abortion argument. When a married woman says she has rights to her own body, she speaks directly against God’s order. Her husband has rights to her body.
Statistically, single women get much more abortions than married women. That suggests that abortions are not a significant problem for married couples. However, it is a big deal to the husbands that have to stand by and endure the killing of his offspring by his wife. The abortion would have negative consequences on the marriage If he truly opposed it.
Legally, husbands have no say in whether their wives have an abortion. However, as we saw, he does have rights to her body in God’s kingdom (way).
The Right To Be Promiscuous
The pro-choice claim that women have the right to do what they want with their own bodies is a distraction from the real choice. The truth is that the pro-choice agenda promotes promiscuity without consequences.
Therefore, the choice in question is not whether a woman can have an abortion legally. It is whether a woman can be promiscuous and end the fruits of it. I believe some women are promoting their ability to have sex when they want and with whomever they want without being concerned about pregnancy.
Abortion is, therefore, the right to be promiscuous in an immoral society. I acknowledge that there may be good reasons for women to get an abortion, such as rape, high risk for harm to the mother, etc. Apart from those, abortion is simply a way out of the consequences of having sex.
I should acknowledge that it is not only about the woman’s promiscuity. The man having sex with her is also promiscuous, and they both desire to cancel the consequences through an abortion. Some men support their girlfriends’ desire to get an abortion.
Abortion as Birth Control
Abortion is used as birth control by pro-choice proponents. They consider it okay to have sex not being married and then eliminate the evidence, so to speak. It is a way to have sex but without the concern of conception. Abortion is a way of practicing immorality and ungodliness.
Ideally, sex should be between a married couple. However, our world is full of people who have sex not being married or extra-marital, i.e., infidelity. So, it would be silly for me to expect people to wait until marriage to have sex, especially in our increasingly ungodly world. It used to be taboo for an unmarried woman to get pregnant. However, now it is accepted as normal.
Let me stop for a moment and acknowledge that women do not get pregnant on their own. So, I am not suggesting that immorality or promiscuity is solely the woman’s fault. Pregnancy requires sperm, i.e., a man. A woman cannot get pregnant unless she has had sex with a man (in the context of this article).
Better Birth Control
I do recognize that people will have sex outside of marriage. That is the world we live in. Some forms of birth control can be used to prevent pregnancy, though not all are 100% guaranteed to work.
The most effective birth control method available is abstinence—and it is free. If you don’t have sex, you don’t need to be concerned about conception or an abortion. That sounds crazy to many. However, remember what I said earlier about godly things seeming unreasonable to the ungodly.
A person may think it is impossible to abstain from having sex. Sex is an extremely powerful force. Kingdoms have gone to war, ministries destroyed, and marriages ruined because of our affinity to sex. So, it isn’t necessarily an easy thing to do. However, with God’s help, it can be done. All things are possible if you believe.
In any case, there are still other effective forms of birth control besides abortion. At least those should be considered before taking a human life for granted. Use birth control if you have sex and don’t want a child. That goes for married couples as well.
Forced to Give Birth
I saw one of the most ridiculous posts on social media that I have ever seen. It stated that the government is now forcing women to give birth because of the overturning of Roe v. Wade! Keep in mind what I said earlier about the stupidity of evil. I could not figure out how the government forces women to give birth by overturning Roe v. Wade.
What the pro-choice proponents want is the ability to have sex whenever and with whomever they want, and not worry about pregnancy. The constitution of the United States no longer protects the promiscuity provided by abortions. It is now up to the states to decide whether abortions are legal.
Because the United States Constitution no longer protects the choice of abortions, women fear that they must deal with the pregnancy consequences of their promiscuity. I think they fear not being able to have their cake without the calories, so to speak.
In any case, women are not forced to give birth. It is only possible that their state will prohibit abortions. That means they will need to be careful in “sleeping around” because they may need to deal with pregnancy consequences.
Self-Control
One of the attributes I learned when studying karate in my youth was self-control. The Bible reveals that self-control is one of the fruits of the Spirit (See Galatians 5:22-23). Abortions provide a way to sidestep self-control. Why should a person control themselves when the consequences of their acts can be eliminated?
I’m not suggesting that pro-choice proponents are the only ones promoting no self-control. However, their vehement promotion of abortions is just another way of supporting the idea that we need no self-control in sexual relations. It promotes ungodliness.
Instead of claims of a woman’s right to her body, it is expedient that they instead promote self-control that leads to godliness and away from promiscuity. Consider what the Apostle Paul says.
1 Corinthians 7:1–2 (HCSB) — 1 Now in response to the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have relations with a woman.” 2 But because sexual immorality is so common, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.
As in Paul’s day, immorality exists today. He suggests that people marry to steer clear of sexual immoralities, e.g., fornication because they cannot control themselves. It may seem impossible to control yourself regarding sex. However, Paul did it. How did he do it? I believe it was because he was mature in the fruit of the Spirit of self-control.
We may think it is impossible, but all things are possible to God and those who believe.
We Are Stupid
We many times practice stupidity. We believe some of the most ridiculous things simply because someone said something or what we hear on news outlets. Politicians thrive on our gullibility and stupidity. They have people convinced they should vote for candidates in a specific political party, not who is the better candidate.
Abortions and Roe vs. Wade will be a big topic in the coming election at the time of this writing. They are counting on people to vote for a candidate because of their stance on abortion. Pro-lifers will tend to vote for a candidate that is against abortions. Pro-choice supporters will tend to vote for those who support abortions. Again, they expect us to be stupid, as they always have.
Therefore, the abortion argument will be used to compel you to vote a certain way, i.e., the way that someone else wants you to vote. Instead of determining who is the better candidate, we tend to support them based on their stance on abortions or some other relatively insignificant topic. It is so sad how stupid we can be.
What do abortions have to do with national security, inflation, health, small businesses, etc.? Absolutely nothing. As I said earlier, it’s mainly about the ability to be promiscuous without consequences. Now, that is stupid.
Pursue God
What we need to do is pursue God. Instead of pursuing promiscuity or something we are compelled to support, we should pursue the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. That would compel us to travel a path of godliness instead of evil.
If we pursued God instead of ungodliness, we would not have immoral issues such as the abortion argument (as birth control). The solution is to follow God, not to seek evil. Think about it for a moment. If we strove to live a godly life and acquired the power to do so from God’s Spirit, we would not have casual sex, at least not nearly as much. Abortions would then be a moot point.
Conclusion
The abortion argument is stupid because it is not about the woman’s body. It is about the unborn child’s body growing inside of her and the desire to be promiscuous without consequences. Countless are vehement cries for pro-choice, but its premise is on sandy ground. It’s stupid, i.e., lacking common sense.
Abortion is perceived as a form of birth control that allows women (and men) to be promiscuous without worrying about having a child. Pro-choice proponents seek to validate an ungodly lifestyle instead of simply pursuing God to live a godly life.
Yes, we will sin and do stupid stuff. It is the nature of humans to make no sense sometimes or make stupid decisions. However, the pursuit of stupidity should not be our desire and path. We should seek wisdom and godliness. If that were the case for more people, abortion would be less of an issue and, ideally, a moot point.
Who speaks for the helpless baby inside the womb? What rights do the unborn have whose life was conceived at the whim of a promiscuous woman?
Apart from rape or the mother’s well-being, the abortion argument is stupid, i.e., lacking common sense. It is just a ploy for single men and women to be promiscuous without consequences.
Tell your Rape abortion thought to the human beings made in God’s image who were born out of Rape just like minister James Robinson. He and his wife Betty Robinson has a world wide influence in bringing others to Christ Jesus. One sin, the rape, does not give license to commit another sin of murder. That woman who has been raped can give the CHILD up for adoption if she so chooses and God can bring something wonderful out of what was born from sin. First the woman who was transgressed upon now has to live with the knowledge she has killed an innocent and unborn creature MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. She can be counseled and loved through the process. Think about it! What Satan meant for evil, God can bring new life and a testimony of his love for others. I would lovingly encourage a prayerful reexamination of your thought process.
Hello, Marcus. Your point is well taken. However, given the promiscuity in our world today, I think a woman’s choice to abort a child just to eliminate the consequences of her promiscuity is very wrong. That is what the article was really about. The rape question is something that I feel is beyond me. You are correct that the Bible never condones killing a child conceived from rape. Abortion is just another way of killing a child before it was born, which was not possible in ancient times. I am rethinking my opinion about a rape victim’s right to abortion. When I consider the trauma that a woman might endure from bring raped, I think that she should not have to endure the birth as well. I figured psychologically, that would be a mess and perhaps bad for the child.
However, like you said, we are in the image of God. God is the giver and sustainer of life and perhaps we don’t have the right to take it. However, there are specific cases when it is condoned in scripture. For example, the man who rapes the woman should be killed. There are also other times when capital punishment was the penalty for a crime or action.Sometimes, those boundaries are blurred. For me the question of a woman giving birth to a child from rape is still very blurred. However, your point is well taken. Perhaps I investigate that specific situation and provide some insight. It was interesting to find that most women who get pregnant after rape go on to have the child and their psychological state becomes more positive during the pregnancy. Perhaps my empathy was blurring things too much.
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate how respectful you were. God bless you always.
